BGCC KEY SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES

BGCC's programs increase academic success, promote family literacy, and encourage physical and emotional health and wellness. Qualitative and quantitative data to date indicates BGCC programs are highly successful each year, showing an increase in homework completion, academic achievement for all ethnic and socioeconomic groups, behavioral improvements, healthy living style adaptations, and development of leadership skills. BGCC is recognized for mentoring programs in underserved communities (2015 Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Host Committee featured BGCC's work). BGCC serves over 2,000 students (K-12) with facilities and sports programs, and 730 enrolled members in after school and summer programs. Our partnerships and collaborations increase annually. A small sampling includes:

"Power Hour," a comprehensive homework help and tutoring program that raises academic proficiency.
"Summer Camps" providing six-weeks of academic and sports programs.
"Triple Play," a comprehensive wellness initiative to improve overall health by increasing daily physical activity, teaching good nutrition, and helping develop healthy relationships.
Management of Parks & Recreation for recreational activities, providing opportunities for programs off hours and weekends for all Coastal residents.
Various Clubs (surf, soccer, basketball), Girls Golf for middle school students (recognized in Golf Digest, Junior Achievement Awards).
"I am the middle child in a really big family. I usually never get any of the attention and I know my parents are busy with the younger kids, but at the Boys and Girls Club I feel special. I am surrounded by all these people who went from strangers to friends, from friends to close friends, and from close friends to feeling like family." Wilfrido, 2016 Junior Youth of the Year

"There is a terrific balance between playtime, homework time, and structured learning time. With a continual focus on good behavior, character building, and manners, the kids have fun all the while. I have seen my son mature a lot through this program, and most importantly, he just loved to be there every single day." Julie, Club Parent
