The Half Moon Bay History Association is in the early stages of developing a history museum in Half Moon Bay, to Preserve and Celebrate the History of the Coastside. The first milestone in this project is to construct and operate a mini-museum in the historic Half Moon Bay jail on Johnston Street. While this museum may be small in size, the related effort is not. It involves preparing the building, ensuring that the artifacts and archives currently in the jail are catalogued and preserved, setting up exhibits and displays and educating the team of eager volunteer docents so that they are prepared to share their knowledge with museum guests..

We are on schedule to launch the opening of the jail this summer. It will be open on Saturdays and Sundays for six hours per day for both locals and visitors to enjoy.

Longer term, we are developing the specific plans for the rehabilitation and restoration of the Johnston Barn building behind the jail, to establish it as an even larger, more comprehensive Coastside History Museum.
