Celebrating 20 years of program — and we're just getting started!
We're calling on our community, for the second year in a row, to donate and continue making meaningful improvements for those we serve.
This year, we’re excited to share that the Palmer family—longtime members of HPDN and dedicated supporters of the program—have generously committed a $4,000 matching gift. The Palmers have been part of this community for years and deeply believe in the impact of this program and the individuals it serves.
With their support, our goal is to raise $8,000 by May 7th. Every dollar you give up to $4,000 will be matched, doubling your impact and helping us go even further.
Last year, your generosity helped us raise $6,800 and every dollar went directly toward making our program the best it can be.
Please consider giving through May 7th. Every contribution, big or small, makes a lasting impact.
Hope Services has been proud to serve the Coastside community since 2005. At the time, there were no services available for people with disabilities and mental health needs as they grew out of the school system. The program began with six participants, three of who are still part of the program today. Their continued involvement speaks to the lasting impact of the community that has been built here. Today we support 22 participants (16 who reside from Pescadero up through Pacifica) and hope to welcome even more with our future plans.
At Hope Services, we envision a world where every person experiences dignity, well-being, and belonging within a supportive and inclusive community. A world where communities are built on compassion, equity, and connection—ensuring that all people have the resources, support, and love they need to thrive. In this world, differences are celebrated, and every individual’s well-being is nurtured—creating a future where human potential is limitless and shared by all.
Person-Centered Planning
Central to the success of the HPDN program is our Person-Centered Planning approach. This ensures that each participant’s program is tailored to their unique strengths, interests, and support needs. We work with each participant on a personal level, engaging with them twice a year to update their plans and ensure they are thriving. Our 1:4 staffing ratio allows for individualized attention and a focus on what matters most to each person. Activities are chosen based on the individual's interests and can include:
Community-Based Activities
At Hope Services, we believe that individuals with developmental disabilities deserve to be active, contributing members of society. HPDN participants spend their entire day out in the community, where they engage in activities that promote social ties and personal growth. From art classes to YMCA programs, community college courses to recreation opportunities, our participants are living life to the fullest.
Additionally, we offer volunteer opportunities that align with participants' passions, including partnerships with the SPCA, Elkus Ranch, Big Wave, and the Pacifica Rotary Club. Our participants don’t just participate—they give back and feel proud of their contributions.
Why Your Support Matters
Our participants are eager to continue contributing to the vibrant Half Moon Bay community, and with your support, we can make it happen. Together, we can help them thrive—one person, one opportunity, one connection at a time.
Over the years, the program has navigated many challenges, including road closures along Devil’s Slide, road construction and accidents, the disruptions of COVID-19, severe weather, and the loss of staff and participants. Through it all, the program has continued to support individuals and families who rely on these services every day.
Many participants are now aging, and with that comes new physical needs and creative grouping. Therefore, our goal for the coming year is to secure a larger gathering space for onsite programming that would allow us to expand the number of people we serve, offer more enriching learning opportunities and accommodate more individuals with more needs.
Your support this year makes it possible to help cover
- large transportation costs
- supplies for arts and crafts
- rent space at a local HMB church
- invest in staff appreciation so we can retain the dedicated team that makes this program possible.
