ABOUT / OUR VISION

The Muchia Te’ Indigenous Land Trust is an Indigenous women-led 501(c)3 non-profit committed to healing people and land through the restoration of natural and cultural resources in the unceded Rammaytush homeland of the San Francisco Peninsula (including the coast from Montara to Pescadero). Our Vision involves advancing Indigenous stewardship and sovereignty, and educating the public about the Rammaytush peoples, sharing our stories as well as accounts of dispossession and genocide. We plan to establish a cultural and language center, continue the work of revitalizing our language and cultural practices lost to colonialism, and create inter-organizational and inter-tribal collaboration on restoration and healing programs.

OUR PROJECTS

- LANGUAGE REVITALIZATION

Established an ongoing Rammaytush language program with linguists from UC Berkeley, with weekly study groups.

- NATIVE PLANT GARDENS

Our newest Native Plant Garden will be welcomed at the HEAL Project Farm this April, along with a Talking Circle! The Talking Circle will provide a physical space through which people can connect with the land, each other, and Native history and culture.

- NATIVE CRAFT WORKSHOPS

These workshops, including our Bi-monthly Basket circles, create a space for connection to Native practices, community, ancestors, and nature. The workshops are led by Indigenous teachers and use natural materials such as pine needles and kelp. Our current Basket Circle is focusing on Tule, bringing awareness to the necessity of protecting wetland habitats and our interconnectivity with the natural world.

- ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND RESTORATION

Ongoing fight for recognition and sovereignty of Native lands. Examples include Project Timiktak Land Reclamation, which prevents further environmental disruption on Rammaytush Land by resisting the filling of the Timiktak (Rockaway) Quarry. Another example is our partnering with NOAA, RCD, and the Fish and Wildlife Department to release endangered Native Coho Salmon into Pescadero Creek.
