Donate to repair the Jail!

We  celebrate and share the history of the Coastside, from Montara to Año Nuevo!

We are volunteers dedicated to bringing together all members of the community to preserve and share the history of the San Mateo Coastside. Our view is that history is the lives and works of all the cultures and races that make the Coastside what it is today, from the times of the earliest indigenous villages, Spanish, then the Mexican years, early American period, and up to modern times. It's all part of our history. We share the stories and artifacts through our museum.

We also share history in local schools, with history walks, and in presentations open to the public, as well as recording oral histories.  We  answer research requests about Coastside history. The Coastside History Museum includes the historic jail, built in 1919 and needing repairs. We have exhibits designed and built for our museum, and a number of items from our collections in the museum, as well as items on loan.

Your donation to the Half Moon Bay History Association will repair the jail and prepare for the mural, as well as enable us to build more exhibits for the main museum and in the repaired Jail.

Mission

We bring together all members of the community to preserve, celebrate, and share the history of the people of the San Mateo Coastside, and their lives.

Needs

Your donation will complete paying for the repair and updating of the historic Jail, as well as enabling us to build new exhibits for both the museum and the jail.

The jail, unfortunately, is aging (the roof is at least 30 years old) and will be repaired and improved this year. We will preserve it's historic presence, while preserving it. We'll replace the roof, repair the windows, and install heating and dehumidification to preserve it for the future. We'll be installing new electrical and lighting to allow us to show more exhibits in the jail.

Once the jail is repaired, a mural will be painted on the south wall of the Jail.

Thanks to generous major donors, we have funds for the mural, as well as half the money we need to repair the jail. Please help us fund the remainder of the repair cost by donating!
