HMB Robotics' Story
As a community organization partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside, HMB Robotics serves Coastside students from any school from 2nd all the way through to 12th grade. Through our teams and classes, students are able to learn valuable skills such as design, software development, building hardware and electrical, public speaking, leadership, and outreach efforts.
Half Moon Bay Robotics’s mission is to help the community by bringing STEM education accessible for all students of any background through our three teams: our high school FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team, the Pumpking Bots, our middle school FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) team, the Coastside Circuits, and our elementary school FLL (FIRST Lego League) class. Since our organization is established under the Boys and Girls Club, any student is able to participate no matter their location along the coastside or school they attend.
Our Half Moon Bay Robotics programs started in 2022 with the formation of team 8793, the Pumpkin Bots. In our first year, we had a rocky but quite successful start with getting the Rookie All Star award which cemented us a spot in the World Championships in Houston, Texas! Over the years we have greatly improved as a team–while gaining more members, we are still a very small team with 11 dedicated students.
In 2024, our middle school team, 26026, the Coastside Circuits, was established. Our middle school team allows for a younger audience to get involved with robotics and join a wonderful community of budding creatives.
Our latest FIRST robotics venture has been the formation of our FLL (FIRST Lego League) class in 2025. Within this class, kids are able to explore their creativity and tackle problems of engineering with Lego materials and simple motors.
