ALAS

ALAS stands for Ayundando Latinos A Soñar, which means Helping Latinos to Dream. The organization was born from the desire to help children and their families to feel proud of their identity and culture and amplify their voices. ALAS' activity started with the successful cultural arts programs such as Ballet Folklórico Tonantzin and Mariachi Media Luna. With the believe that cultura inspires and heals the soul, opening doors for community wealth, leadership, activism, and engagement to flourish. And flourish it has!

ALAS continues to celebrate with spectacular dance and music performances, and has added many elements to the organization.  There is a Food Pantry twice a month where 300 families come to pick up fresh food. The Farmworker Liaison Team provides support and resources to the 2000+ farmworkers and their families in the area.  There is a Diaper program and Moms' Group. There are art classes and shows for all ages.   And there is casework for people with questions and various health needs. 

ALAS is a wonderful organization full of love and care for anyone who walks through the door.  I joined the ALAS Board three years ago and it has been the experience of a lifetime.  Unbound effort, vision, passion, care and love.  To read more please go to www.alasdreams.com.
