When COVID hit, ALAS launched a pop-up food pantry to support essential workers and farmworkers in our community. With the lasting impacts of the pandemic and the rising cost of rent and living on the Coastside, ALAS continues to see a critical and growing need for food assistance.
When we first launched the pantry, distributions took place every Saturday. Due to funding shortfalls, we transitioned to twice-a-month distributions in 2022, which continues today.
Currently, our food pantry distributions serve over 400 families, and even more during the holiday seasons.
In addition, we meet families where they are by delivering food directly to farms for workers who cannot travel to distribution sites. This support helps bridge the gap between housing insecurity and homelessness, ensuring families have access to basic nutrition during difficult times.
Your partnership with ALAS helps ensure Coastside families have access to healthy, culturally appropriate food.
Families have shared with us:
"The food pantry is what is helping keep food on our table because we are not making it right now."
"We are saving up all we have to be able to make our rent payment, so having the healthy food and cards you are giving us is really important for our family. Thank you to those helping us."
